Monkey’s Paw

Just like WW Jacobs’ Monkey's Paw, where the wishes granted by said item lead to dire and irrevocable consequences, the hand at the center of this piece offers up a tragic outcome. Bent into the OK sign, a symbol adopted by white supremacist groups, the hand calls for a return to the past, the so-called “glory days of white men.” This is further illustrated by the Betsy Ross stars framing the hand, referencing the country's conception in 1776 and the racist and bloody history that follows.
