The Savior Was Grafted On

Time and again, religion has been used to justify various endeavors, including the oppression of others. This is particularly true in the history of this country. In this piece, Jesus' image has been altered, two unnatural arms sprouting from his back. Instead of the relief and comfort that we usually associate with his figure, he is menacing, the grafted arms threatening the child he's holding. His eyes are void of an ego, while the combination of the sword and blood-like robe gives him a militant appearance. He has become a puppet of violence, inflicting harm on the very people he promised to protect.
